Special E-Acoustic Guitars
Special electro-acoustic guitars are instruments whose shape or construction differs from that of a conventional acoustic guitar with electronics. Here you will find silent guitars, hybrids combining acoustic and electric guitars, models made from unconventional materials and signature instruments. When choosing, decide whether your priority is an unconventional sound, practicality for practice or a distinctive shape.
Which type of special electro-acoustic guitar should you choose?
| Type | Best suited to | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Silent guitars | Practising in flats and playing with headphones | A natural acoustic sound is only produced after amplification |
| Hybrid models | Players who want to combine acoustic and electric character | The controls and pickups are more complex than on a conventional guitar |
| Models made from composite materials | Transport and travel | The sound may differ from that of wooden instruments |
| Signature and statement models | Players who want a particular shape or style | Check that the body shape and weight suit you |
What to check before choosing
- The type of electronics and the connectors and functions it offers.
- The body shape, weight and comfort when you play sitting or standing.
- The scale length and neck width in relation to your hand.
- The tuning, strings and required maintenance.
- How the electronics are powered, such as by a battery or rechargeable battery.
